2010 Winter Rendezvous

News Release 1

California Dreaming…

All the leaves are brown

And the sky is grey

I've been for a walk

On a winter's day

I'd be safe and warm

If I was in L.A…

We aren’t coming to LA, but in other parts of the country the leaves may be brown and the sky may be grey – so come on out to California to see what it’s like March 1-7, 2010.  We promise a good time and a rousing farewell event to the Fleetwood Travelcade Club, as we have known it.  Contact former members and friends and bring them along – this Rendezvous is open to everyone.  We are limited to 100 RV’s, so the first ones to get their registrations in will be “safe and warm” in YC (Yuba City) – 50 miles north of Sacramento.

There are three tours planned:  Beale AFB for those of you who are military junkies, Renaissance Winery for the wine aficionados, and Sacramento for a day of historical fun and good food.  There is also golf at a course located in the beautiful Sutter Buttes, a bike ride on the levee along the Feather River, and all the other activities and events that go along with a Rendezvous – except numerous meetings!

Sacramento is the state capitol of California and has one of the most beautiful capital buildings in the country.  We will tour this building (and maybe get a glimpse of our famous “governator”), then move on to Old Sacramento, a historic area that dates back to 1848 when the discovery of gold attracted prospectors and entrepreneurs in search of adventure and riches on the Sacramento riverfront. The unique 28-acre National Historic Landmark District and State Historic Park is located along the beautiful Sacramento River. Bustling with activity, the district is alive with shopping, dining, entertainment, historical attractions and world-renowned museums set within the time of the California Gold Rush and the Transcontinental Railroad.  We’ll visit the California State Railroad Museum, and eat at one of the area’s restaurants with names like Fanny Ann’s Saloon, Buffalo Bob’s, Earl Grey Manor Tea Salon.  It promises to be a full and fun-packed day.

Renaissance Winery is located in the Foothills of the Sierras in the community of Oregon House.  It’s owned by a group called the Fellowship of Friends, and is a place where like-minded people have come together to follow a certain philosophy toward self-fulfillment.  They have created a beautiful oasis with lovely Grecian-style gardens, beautiful hillside vineyards, fabulous wines, and amazing food.  We will have a tour of the gardens, and a gourmet lunch with wine tasting overlooking their beautiful lake. Here are some quotes about Renaissance:

Wine Critic James Halliday, Wine Atlas of California: " If there is a more remarkable vineyard in California, I did not see it. Their wines are stunning."

Matt Kramer, Wine Spectator, said, Renaissance Winery is California's best-kept secret.  Renaissance makes some of California's finest Cabernets, bar none.

Even if you don’t drink wine, the gardens, view and lunch will be well worth a visit.

Beale Air Force Base is one of the best-kept secrets in the Air Force. An Air Combat Command base, Beale's mission is worldwide, high altitude reconnaissance. The 9th Reconnaissance Wing is responsible for providing national and theater command authorities with timely, reliable, high-quality, high-altitude reconnaissance products. To accomplish this mission, the wing is equipped with the nation's fleet of U-2 and RQ-4 Global Hawk reconnaissance aircraft and associated support equipment. The wing also maintains a high state of readiness in its combat support and combat service support forces for potential deployment in response to theater contingencies. The 9th Reconnaissance Wing is composed of more than 3,000 personnel in four groups at Beale and multiple overseas operating locations.  Beale is also home to the Space Command’s PAVE PAWS which is a radar warning system.  We are planning to see as much as possible.

If you want to take the Beale tour, we must have the ID information on the registration form at the time of registration.
