September used to mean the beginning of school and cooler days, was that because I grew up in Wisconsin? Well, here in Alabama schools start in early August and the temperatures read 95 to 100+. Times change. However, laws should, I just learned that it is against the law in Alabama to play dominoes on Sunday. I wonder if that’s enforced? I’m guilty judge! Which brings me to the subject of Grand Jury that I will soon be on, one of the duties, if we choose, is to inspect the County jail. That might be a good idea because three people were arrested recently trying to climb the fence to get into the jail. They have since put razor wire on top of the fence. Is that to keep people in or keep people out?
We are happy to learn that Bill & Evelyn Evans, former members, have purchased a new Fleetwood RV. We hope they will soon be rejoining our AL unit. David & Beverly Williams are spending time at Yellowstone National Park with friends and enjoying the month of August there. Marge Cameron had an unfortunate fall and now wears an ankle boot; her sister Barbara Watson had the same experience a few months ago. These two sisters seem to share everything, it’s amazing.
I mentioned last month that Dan Gilmore had about finished the job of The Fleetwood Travelcade Club billing, however, I forgot to include Sam Whitaker, who has also worked on that huge project; our hats are off to both for their dedication to the Club.
Gordon & Patti Robertson are joining us at the fall buddy rally. We are looking forward to spending time with them, as well as all the other members planning on being at Joe Wheeler.
Please, if you plan to make our buddy rally, September 13-16, on your way to the Fall Rendezvous in IL, call 1-256-247-1184 for reservations and tell them you are with the Fleetwood Travelcade Club. We will be waiting for you!
The monthly fire station fish fry, that some of our members keep high on their social calendar, found the Wilsons, Glenns, Martins and Landrums all sharing together. Ray Landrum continues to improve and his energy level is back to normal, or seems that way!
Whitakers, Clem Hoefler & Barbara, Penns, Landrums, Joe Sharp, Carl Spanyer, Evans and Wilbanks attended our Decatur dinner at Barnhills restaurant, which also takes place each month. Joe Sharp, a former member; was welcomed by everyone at the dinner. Ed Wilbanks seems to have fully recovered from his open-heart surgery, which took place earlier this summer. Ginny Whitaker is gingerly walking with that newly installed knee. She parked the walker and likes the freedom of not having to use it. I can believe that!
Laura Allen is slowly recovering from major surgery. We wish her well. Frank is busy keeping house and driving back and forth to the Foley hospital, where Laura is presently in ICU. Please keep them in your prayers.
Grady had an interesting experience with Fantastic Vent Company. The motor on one of the vents quit working. Contacting the Company he placed an order for the motor. He was told there would be no charge! Well, when the order came, it was the entire fan unit and totally without charge. It can’t get better than that.
Be careful when you fly, while going through airport security I had to surrender my Bengay, they said I was packing heat.

If you are looking for Francisco & Sylvia Aguilar in Gilbert Arizona you won’t find them there. However if you travel North East to Topeka Kansas you may find them there spending some time resting under the shade of the sun flowers. Two associate members Mike & Kathy Sexton with our Mascots and Paul & Yuki Tuttle spent some time at the Great American Rally in Redmond Oregon. Paul mentioned that this rally does not compare with our friendly Unit and National rallies.
Fall Rally: Rally notices are in the mail, please respond as we need to notify the park how many sites we need. Break out your calendars, mark down the following dates October 17-21 Arizona Unit fall rally, Located in the beautiful farming community of Willcox Arizona. Tours of farms and attractions in the area and of course a day of golf followed by an Ice Cream Social. Don’t miss out on this exciting event.
By the time you read this report Diane Ernest will be sporting a new hip. With two knees and now a hip replacement we are making bionic women out of her.
September Critter Report: While Diane was sitting in her chair just looking out the window a Bob Cat Cub appeared, with nose pressed against the window, proceeded to check out the view of our bed room, bed room closet and beyond the door into the hall. It was a warm day so this cub, with her mouth open and tongue hanging out strolled over to the water bowl lapped up a few drops of cooling water then moved on to the next location needing to be visited. Nick the stick is still AWOL as is his lady friend. The quail families are still producing families of offspring. While these clutches of new hatchlings are smaller usually 3 to 5 chicks than the earlier clutches of 8 to 10.
Four dates to remember, in September. Labor Day on September 3, Fall Rendezvous September 19-26 and Yom Kippur on September 22, South West Round Up September 30 to October 7th.
Enjoy your summer travels and hurry back.

My, it's hot here in central Arkansas. Heat index today of 109 degrees. We have had such a nice summer up until now, but it seems the grass died over night.
I don't have a lot of news. We have had news that Flo Earhart and Jerry Keeter have both had medical problems and have both been in the hospital. We understand both are doing better. We hope to see both of them at the Fall Rally.
We were able to get away for a nice weekend with the Horseys, Keeters and Helms. We met them in Ozark while Darrell & Patsy did some final planning for the Fall Rally. As always, they have a wonderful rally planned. YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD TIME.
FALL RALLY DATES: October 10-13 at Aux-Arc Corp Park in Ozark, Arkansas. They do not take reservations that time of the year, but you do need to let Darrell & Patsy know if you are going to be there. SEE YOU THERE.
Until Next Time, Happy RV'ng to all.

Hello, Summer is just about gone and fall is just around the corner .We hope every one has had a good summer. We heard from Rae Ruana and they finally finished with the remodeling in their kitchen and are headed to the California coast and then up to Oregon to visit the Browers at their hide-a-way. They drove up to visit Marilyn & Mayo Miller and are happy to report that Mayo seems so much better than when they saw him in April. That is good news Mayo keep it up. We love you! Marilyn has been busy, put new siding on the house and changed the windows. She reports that they have sold their pickup and still looking for a buyer for their trailer.
We received an email from Jody Lopez. In July she spent a week river rafting on the Snake river in Hells Canyon, Idaho. She will be walking a marathon at Disneyland on Labor Day. She sold her camper to a gentleman from Wisconsin. He plans to take it to Cayo in Michigan and fix it up. She is looking for a 5th wheel. It wasn't ugly Jody it was an antique
Some of the First Timers at our Spring Rally in Chico and some other members have become friends and are attend outings together .The Bakers, Lanes and Powers got together for a nice campout and are already planning another one with others attending. That is great! That is what the club is all about, to meet friends and get together for fun.
Several of our members attended The Rally in Redmond. OR and reported a large crowd and having a good time. Traveling together were Skip & Virginia Davis, Bobbye Fitchner, Leon & Myrna Mendenhall and their daughter, Kathy and son, John. Also attending were Mike & Kathy Sexton and Ray & Linda Warner. It ended up being a pretty expensive trip for a couple of our members as the Mendenhalls got a new 39’ Discovery and the Warners got a new Providence. Some stayed to attend the FMCA Rally also.
News from Southern CA: Everyone in the Inland Empire was busy with other things in August so did not have their luncheon. Jim & Carol Davis have their 9 year old granddaughter from VA visiting and will take her back to meet her parents on their way to the Fall Rendezvous in Duquoin, IL. They and the Ansevics will be taking their granddaughters to Knotts Berry Farm while she is here. Jim had another stent put in the end of July and is doing good. Their 18 year old Grandson from Nampa, ID was in a bad car accident on July 23rd and suffered a fractured neck. He is in Rehab at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise, ID and learning to function as independently as possible. He has a very positive outlook and attitude and you can see him and/or write him a note at www.caringbridge.org. (website name josiahsullivan).
Floyd & Gale Hubert are busy with their jeep group, the Riverside 4 Wheelers. Gale is president and they are planning many rides and events.
Ed & Jerry Miller are so busy it is impossible to keep up with their travels. They don’t spend much time at home in Hemet and are enjoying escaping the heat. They do check in occasionally and are off again.
Gene & Martha Chivas are on an extended trip back east for the summer. It will be nice to get everyone home again and hopefully see everyone at lunch again beginning in October.
We look forward to seeing many of you in Duquoin, IL or Albuquerque.

Don & Gladys Porter returned from their trip to Dallas. Gladys hasn’t been too well but they anticipate a trip to Branson in September with their family. They had a good four day outing in Salt Springs this summer.

Here is my last news letter, so bear with me just a little longer. We have all heard of Big Foot, Sasquatch and other mysterious creatures of North America, but only a select few have ever caught even a glimpse of the elusive specimen. But now our own Sharon Wagner, not only came face to face with one, Sharon actually had her hands on it and let it escape back into the "Wilds of Ft. McCoy, WI". This event can be verified by Dick Russell as he actually heard the results of the face to face encounter.
Speaking of Ft. McCoy, Les & Sue Ann Ross put on a wonderful Buddy Rally in Wisconsin. This Buddy Rally even included a "wake-up call" that started every morning a 5:45am and continued thru out the day until 11:00pm at night. For those of you that were never in the military, the bugle has a beautiful sound! Those in attendance were our host, the Rosses, Ralph Burcar, Shirley Clark, Russells, Carmans, Spencers, Weithorns, Wagners and son Chad, Wells, Foremans, McKinnons, Peters’, Sorensens, Jaynes’, Paul George, Don & Sandy Fowler and her parents, Ken & Gloria Goetz, Frank & Bev Simon from the Iowa Unit. We also had two new members join, Rod & Marleen Lippert from Wisconsin. We had more home cooked food than you can imagine. Ralph Burcar furnished sweet corn for a "Corn Boil" one evening while the men roasted hot dogs. One night Sue Ann Ross fried fish while the men grilled hamburgers, and one night Don Fowler grilled brats and hot dogs, plus all the covered dishes. Not to be left out, one evening we all enjoyed a delicious meal at an Italian cafe. We also enjoyed an outing to a Military Museum and a Cranberry Museum, where we enjoyed food items made with cranberries. Our only moment of despair, Ralph Burcar became ill and went to the emergency room, but was feeling better when he left. We all hope it was only a temporary problem and nothing serious.
The Horns have sold their trailer and I know we will miss seeing their friendly faces at our outings. I hope they can attend whenever possible.
Stan & I hope to see all of you at the Fall Rendezvous in Duquoin, September 18-26. Our Illinois Unit State Meeting will be held September 18th. Bernie & Judy have a lot of nice things planned. I want to thank all of you for your news items this past year and hope the news letters have been informative and enjoyable.

Have fun and I'm sure you will.

The Kentucky group, along with a lot of others, is sweltering through a seemingly everlasting heat wave. But, on the bright side we are alive to enjoy being too hot. Therefore, we are not complaining but just acknowledging the fact.
We lost a wonderful person who was a long time member recently. Jo Jones, who's husband Foster Jones preceded her, passed away in Florida June 6, 2007.
In our last newsletter we left out the fact that Olin & Thelma Morris attended our Rally at the Renfro Valley campground. Sorry about that but sometimes some of us forget things. I don't know why but maybe age has something to do with it.
Lanny Williams reports that wife, Ruth, is having a rough time of it at the present so our prayers are with these two wonderful people. Lanny along with sisters Rita and Marty are making plans for a great Fall Rally at the Fair Grounds in Independence, Ky. The event is to be September 13-16. This has always been a highlight of our club year.

As I’m writing this article our group is getting ready for the Fall Rally and Round-Up in Centerville, Michigan. The sad news is that letters were mailed to two other units to invite them to this Round-up and the response has been poor. At this time only 42 members have sent in their reservations. Something is wrong that members are not participating in the planned events. All of the outings take plenty of planning before hand and the unit wants it to be a success. Realizing that gas prices are an important factor, outings have been placed in different sections of the state. But this hasn’t helped either. Oh, well, if you don’t show up, you don’t know what you are missing.
Reminder: election of officers will be held at the Fall Round-Up. If you are interested in taking an office for the coming year, let the officers know so we can put you on the slate for nomination.
At this date no one is on the sick list. Mike Green’s eye surgery was cancelled. Don has recuperated from the bad case of poison ivy. The itching was driving him crazy.
Sue Viera has put her home up for sale and has purchased a condo up at Cheboygan near her daughter. Andy & Pauline West and Dick & Joan Martus helped her pack and have a huge garage sale. So many nice things to give up, but it was a must.
Don’t forget the Fall Buddy Rally at the favorite spot in the center of the state, St. Louis. The dates are September 29-October 5. If you have a friend who would like to come, please invite them for a fun week of food, fun and fellowship.
Birthdays: Barbara Mitchell 9/16, Pat Bradford 9/26, Pauline West 10/1, Joan Cooper 10/19, Robert Ward 10/30 and Earl Meyers 10/31.
Anniversaries: Tim & Lynn Kinney 9/12, Max & Louise Faasse 10/24, Dick & Carol Parker and Gerrit & Janet Peddemors.
This article was in a magazine and I wish to pass it on to you.
7 Days of Inspiration (take one a day and feel great all week!)
Day 1 Sprinkle some sugar on someone’s day. Smile!
Day 2 Angels are always willing and able to lift a burden from your shoulders.
Day 3 Take the day off from your to-do list!
Day 4 A new beginning can start anytime.
Day 5 Heal your heart. Forgive someone.
Day 6 You hold the key to your own happiness. Unlock it.
Day 7 Encourage yourself, too.
Hope all of you are having a good summer and the heat hasn’t gotten to you. The past few days here it’s been in the 90’s and unbearable. No rain in a long time. But our garden is surviving and producing the fresh veggies. Almost time for canning. Enjoy the next few weeks of this weather as “old man winter is right around the corner” and the snowbirds will be heading south.
Until next time,
Doris

News is scarce this month. Guess with this hot weather we are all experiencing it is keeping everyone home and inside.
The monthly luncheon was pretty well attended. Those attending were Fred & Dorothy Baumhoegger, Gene Blase & Dale, Ray & Jeanette French, Bob & Betty Lewis, Bob & Gerry Lorenz and also our new members, Earl & Jean Brigmann.
Many of our club members are planning on going to the DuQuoin, IL. Rendezvous in September. Hope our weather has cooled off by that time.
Bob & Gerry Lorenz will be spending a few days in Columbia to take care of some things on the up coming Rendezvous in April 2008. Ray & Jeanette French will spend one day with them.
Richard & Deanie Kurek went to their granddaughter’s graduation in Michigan. Their granddaughter will be attending Michigan State in the fall.
Kim Manoogian, daughter of Richard & Deanie Kurek has just undergone some serious surgery. We ask everyone to keep Kim and her family and Richard & Deanie in your prayers.

We are still very hot and dry here in the Foothills of N.C. Rain is a rarity and we have just been put on water restriction here. The hot, dry weather has not been conducive to traveling even with the gasoline prices creeping down for the summer. This was a welcome change for those that have been on the road.
Willie & Undine Lamm report that their granddaughter had a sunset wedding on the shore at Myrtle Beach and then a week later they hosted the reception at their home.
Bob & Reva Brown did some traveling this summer and the day after they returned home, they called Bob to do a knee replacement. Even though it was fast he did it and is now on the road to recovery. I’m sure he will keep Reva on the run for him.
Frank Lawrence continues to mend from his earlier surgery with the help of Betsy. Ron Frank had knee replacement surgery in July and then displaced a muscle. He is having surgery August 20th to reattach it. Hopefully this time it will stay in place and they can be on the go. It’s not long ‘til those football games start! Nancy has been a great help to him. Am I detecting a pattern here? You guys are falling apart and the ladies are putting you back on your feet again! Speaking of falling, I had four crowns last week and was just released from the chiropractor after my fall in Winston-Salem. This has been a long ordeal!
Charlie & Ginny McPherren are getting ready to go to the Fall Rendezvous in Illinois. From there they will visit Charlie’s son in Oklahoma and a daughter in Houston before arriving in Rio Grande Valley for the winter.
We are looking forward to our Fall Rally that will be held October 10-14th in Cherokee, NC. We will be at the Happy Holiday RV Park and Campground. We hope that you can join us on your way back from the rendezvous or come directly there from home. Call 1-800-633-2977 to make your reservation. We look forward to a beautiful time in the peak of the fall colors. Ginny is disappointed that she will not be able to come because we’ll be near the casino but I’m sure she will pass others on her travels. I talked to Gamblin’ Hank and he said he would find a motel and join us that week!

With our recent excessive heat and humidity the only reminders that fall is coming are the leaves falling from our tulip and buckeye trees. They always herald the approach of fall. We had an enjoyable (if hot) summer and hope you have also.
Sam had another short stay in the hospital, but is back at 'em full force now. Since we haven't heard any bad or good news to report, we will assume all is well with you out there.
I hope you have circled September 11th and 13th on your calendars. Tuesday, September 11th we'll meet at the Golden Corral for lunch in Findlay at 1pm EDT. Thursday, September 13th, lunch will be enjoyed at The Home Town Buffet in Canton, also at 1:00pm EDT.
Have you planned to attend the Fall Rendezvous, Sept. 19-26 in DuQuoin, IL? Contact Bernie or Judy Weithorn, #17326 IL.
Celebrating September birthdays are Ken Huffman 9/2, Ival Secrest 9/2, Sam Lucas 9/18, Marilyn Zakrajsek 9/24, David Mapes 9/27 and Betty Fagan 9/28. October is the birth month for Pamela Mapes 10/9, Georgeanne Lickert 10/11 and Calvin "Cal" Brehm 10/28.
October anniversaries will be celebrated by Luther "Woody" & Barbara Woodall 10/9 (59 yrs) and Virgil "Bud" & Betty Fagan 10/12 (61yrs). Congratulations to one and all and many happy returns of these days!
This is the last news letter from Sam & me. Our term is coming to an end and we want to thank you all for helping with the Rallies, Roundup, etc. It makes things run so much more smoothly for everyone when you pitch in like you do. Thank you, thank you, from each of us!
Marilyn Zakrajsak will be writing the next news letter (November). Please send your news to her to be included in her letter.
We will leave you with these: TEN THINGS IT TOOK OVER FIFTY YEARS TO LEARN:
1 Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative the same night.
2 There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".
3 You should not confuse your career with your life.
4 No one cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.
5 Never lick a steak knife.
6 The most destructive force in the universe is gossip.
7 You will never find anyone who can give you a clear and compelling reason why we observe daylight savings time.
8 There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday. That time is age eleven.
9 The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe we are above average drivers.
10 Your friends love you anyway.
Sam & I are signing off and we hope to see you on down the road.
Fleetwood hugs,
Julia

Well, as I sit here writing this article and trying desperately to come up with a few newsy tidbits, I have decided I may as well start with myself. I am recuperating from a surgery performed four days ago and hoping I will be well enough for the Dr. to release me a bit earlier than she indicated she would, so we will be able to attend the Fall Rendezvous in DuQuoin, IL. She indicated I would be unable to travel or do anything strenuous for a minimum of six weeks, but I sincerely hope that I recuperate a bit faster than that.
Ebb & Ginny Cox and Granddaughter Rachel had a wonderful time in New York seeing all the sights and doing all the fun things. Ginny has had the cataract surgery on her other eye and is extremely happy with the results. Ginny said she will still need glasses to read, but sees better each day. She & Ebb are in the process of getting things ready to go to Milwaukee, WN to attend the Irish fest. Have a wonderful time, guys.
Jim & Peggy Clubb and some of their family are spending a few days in Destin, FL. We hope they are finding some nice cool ocean breezes to enjoy.
It is HOT in OK and because of this Petunia has been taking Raymond & Verda McKellips for their daily walk about 7 am when the temperature is a bit cooler. Verda said Petunia walks them a bit faster than they prefer, but they all enjoy the fresh air and exercise. We want to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt sympathy to them on the loss of Raymond’s youngest brother. Raymond is also to undergo hernia surgery the 14th of August and we all wish him a successful outcome and a quick recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Raymond.
Jerry & Shelby Brown enjoyed their trip to Cheyenne, WY and Colorado Springs, CO. Jerry said the trip was a bit harder on him than he expected due to the ankle he broke last winter, but they made it ok. They are currently in Oklahoma City getting ready to leave for a trip to North Carolina and Virginia with a stop on the way back at the DuQuoin Rendezvous.
Nellie Pennington has had another setback. Her Doctor had released her to go back to work half days. On her way to work the first day, she had an 8:00 a.m. appointment with her Primary Care Doctor to do a check on her vital signs. We are sad to report they found an irregular heartbeat and she was returned to the hospital for further testing. I talked to Bill just before sitting down to write this note and he said they are still running tests and giving her medication but as of this time they do not have her problem corrected. Hang in there Nellie and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
September birthdays: Bill Pennington 9/7. September Anniversaries: Jim & Peggy Clubb 9/2. October Birthdays: Ebb Cox 10/9, Ginny Cox 10/26, Raymond McKellips10/28, Nellie Pennington 10/30.
Our news this month has been less than the best. We hope to be a bit more cheerful the next time. So until then, remember, it is very difficult to argue with a person when you know they are right!

Now that we have attended a Good Sam/Trailer Life Rally, we’ve seen a small city created on County Fairground Property. It is estimated there were over 4000 rigs and over 9000 people in attendance July 19-22 in Redmond, OR. Mary & Harvey Plunkett and Sarah & Wayne Gabel spent many hours in the Fleetwood Travelcade Club booth passing out membership applications and encouraging current and potential future Fleetwood owners to consider joining The Club. They were also joined by Mike & Kathy Sexton of the CA Unit. It’s always hard to tell how much “fruit” these contacts will bear but it was sure a nice way to meet lots of people and visit with folks. We also bumped into Dave Coleman while waiting in line for the BBQ beef sandwiches furnished to all by Fleetwood. Lynn was in Redmond at a workshop but Dave was attending some of the seminars and vendor booths. We also saw WA members Chuck & Inez Michael, who were also enjoying The Rally.
Our August luncheon was very well attended. We even had some surprise guests. Leah & Phil Kimball, buddies Phyllis & Tony Anusich, and Carol & Dick Eckhart were at a gathering in Albany and took time out to drive to Salem for lunch. Tony wasn’t able to join us but Phyllis was there. Also in attendance were Peg & Lee Bridgeman, Sarah & Wayne Gabel, Polly & Max Hohnbaum, Mary & Harvey Plunkett, Shirley & Dan Roberts, Marilyn & Roland Vorrath, and Mary & Lane Widmark. Leah shared stories about their recent travelcade to China with 24 other FTC members and 10 friends. The Plunketts are headed to the Fall Rendezvous in Duquoin, IL, after which they’ll take their rig to the factory for repairs. They’ll have plenty of time to visit friends and family in that part of the country since it will take about 6 weeks to make the repairs. The Roberts have their home and seven acres in Veneta, OR for sale. Once it’s sold, they’ll relocate permanently to Corpus Christi. Mary Widmark is at it again. She has canned 14 quarts of apricots and 7 pints of zucchini relish. Before coming to the luncheon, she weeded the garden, put cucumbers to soak for sweet pickles, and got some plums ready to make juice. She freezes the juice then adds it to the applesauce she makes in the fall. She and Lane sure stay busy. Their kids wonder when they’ll start to take it easy and just buy their fruit and pickles at the store, but once you’ve had home canned food, it’s sure hard to give it up.
After our July luncheon, it was determined that our group has outgrown our current location, and since it doesn’t have a separate area where we can visit freely without disturbing other folks, we entertained the idea of moving to a different luncheon location. Polly & Max scouted another restaurant in the Salem area, and then Wayne & I had dinner there one evening when we had to take some products to the Salem Hospital for the Red Cross. There is a separate room which will accommodate about 25, seniors get a 10%, discount, gratuity is added to your bill so you don’t have to have separate money for that, and the 1st Wednesday of each month is available. A vote was taken and it was decided that we’ll start meeting at Schroeder’s Guest House beginning in September. To get to Schroeder’s, take I-5 to exit 258 and go east approximately ¾ of a mile on Highway 99. It will be on the right (south) side of the road. Our first gathering there will be Wednesday, September 5th. Unfortunately, that conflicts with the WA rally but for those who aren’t attending the rally please join us. Wayne and I can’t attend since we’ll be in the San Juan Islands, but we’ll be thinking of you. We won’t have a luncheon in October because most or all of us will be at our rally in Meridian, Idaho.
Safe travels and fun times to all during this summer season. This will be my last installment at your Secretary/Treasurer. It’s been fun spreading the news.
Sarah

As I sit down to write this in August, it is very hot here in the southeastern corner of PA. I’m thinking about the Fall Rally in Kutztown. Bob & Ruth Skrable have planned a nice trip to a coal mine and free time for us to visit and explore the area. I know I’ll probably head to Cabella’s store on one of those days and there are two award winning wineries in the area. I do have to give a special thanks to Bob for taking on this rally at such a short notice last spring. I hope to see you in Kutztown on Sept.5-9.
Pat & I would like to say thanks for all your help because in September we will finish our term as officers of the club and the Lindsays will take over as your representatives. Come out and give them all the support you can. As you know there are many changes are in the works and patience and co-operation from all of us will be needed and greatly appreciated. The Eichlins are moving up to 1st Vice President and the 2nd Vice President spot will be open for a volunteer. It would be 5 years before you become president. Please think about what you could do for the PA Unit.
We only heard from one member this month. Frank & Juanita have been in KS. They didn’t find Dorothy, but they had lots of rainy weather which was quite a change for them from the 110 degree dry air of Phoenix. They went to MN for a family reunion before returning home to DE in July then to the rally in September.
We are stuck at home because of work but have a bad case of wanderlust and sure wish we were traveling. We keep hoping to hit the road someday.
I hope many of you are out there using your campers. Our son and his wife are using their small camper as a residence in Freehold, NJ. They love the camper life style and are making Pat & I wish we were old enough to retire and join them.
September birthdays are: Juanita McCleary 9/3, Margaret Arnold 9/7, John Graybeal 9/17, Robert Arnold 9/20, and Cathleen Lachman. Anniversaries are: Beryl & Jim Eichlin 9/1, Billy Ray & Jane Turner 9/3, Richard & Sandra Sensel 9/5, and Bob & Ruth Skrable 9/12.

Turn down the heat. ENOUGH ALREADY!! The mountain states are cooked to death. Our members have gone all over the west and no cool spots were found in June, July or August. Let’s hope September in Illinois will not be hot.
Bob & Helen (17310) headed north with Clarence & Joyce (17130). They were having a great time until the axle bearing failed. Now, the trailer is parked in Wyoming awaiting parts. The good news is that their vacation wasn’t ruined as Joyce & Clarence viewed Yellowstone and visited a dude ranch in the area. Clarence & Joyce went on to Montana and then down to Utah. They were just 24 hours late in seeing Knute & Joan (15918) at Arches National Park in Moab, Utah.
Harry & Betty (15326) are parked at Great Falls, Montana. Their families still live there and Betty is helping her mom. They are hoping to make the Fall Rendezvous in Illinois, travel on to the east coast for the winter and be our new president.
George & Mary (23414) have been buying all the fuel in six states and Canada. They got a Pace Arrow in Tucson and have been on the go ever since. Due to work demands we won’t be able to see them at the rendezvous.
Bob & Clara (16037) are finally parked after an extended trip up the coast. Family gathering in California, more family in Oregon and the class reunion in Idaho. Just to make the tour cost effective, they had repairs on their fifth wheel and then stopped in Boise to do supper with Knute & Joan (15918). Now Bob reports 72 degrees and calm in Albuquerque on August 12th.
Dick & Laura (15701) are home bodies this summer. Their extended trip to the east coast was long enough. They got home to find many chores crying for attention. Dick is doing yard work, house work and will be cleaning the RV for our fall roundup in New Mexico. Their son is flying in from the Pacific and catching up on life in the big city of Centennial, Colorado.
Gary (22292) is back home from a trip to England and Scotland. He reports leaving the Glasgow airport just before the terrorist drove their car into the terminal. He is rethinking future trips outside the US. Maybe a road trip and rendezvous looks safer next year. He will be at our roundup and is scheduled to be at our fashion show.
Knute & Joan (15918) are home from the most recent volunteer trip to Boise, Idaho. The concrete work is done and the one week trip home was a real treat. Bear Lake in Utah is a great place to relax. Heber City has a steam train worth riding. The Arches National Park at Moab, Utah was really impressive. We stopped at Grand Junction, Colorado and stayed at Island Acres State Park. The peaches were coming on but the price seemed high at $1.00 or more a pound from the grower. Our local grocery store is offering peaches for less and the season is young.
This will be my last article as Harry & Betty (15326) are taking over my duties. Tom (24151) is staying on as Treasurer and Bob & Helen (17310) will be first VP.
Hope to see you all at the Fall Rendezvous in Illinois or the Southwest Round Up in Albuquerque. Safe travel and low fuel prices are blessings we can all use.
Bye for now from the high plains of Colorado,
Knute & Joan

This is the shortest article for the newsletter that I’ve ever written. When we don’t hear from anyone, we can’t tell you what’s happening with our club members.
We were able to connect with John Melton a couple of weeks ago. John’s daughter & her husband, Trisha & L.J. Sharp, have joined FTC. They purchased the new unit while attending the Mid-States East Round-Up in April. They live in TX but, due to their relationship to John, have decided to be SC members. They’re going to be putting miles on the rig but that’s okay with us. We’re glad to have them as members of the unit and wish them many years with us.
As I mentioned before, Claire & Kathy Stewart are in their new home. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to visit them in their new abode. The area in which they live backs up to a golf course so they see many people going by and a few little white balls laying around on their lawn. So far so good though, there haven’t been any broken windows.
As this is being written, our Fall Rally information is being sent out to members, associate and buddies. We will meet with the GA Unit at Camp Harmony located outside Elberton, GA – October l0th (early birds), Oct 11 through 13 for the rally proper. If you’re visiting in the area during that time feel free to come join us but, if possible, give us a call so we can be on the look-out for you (864) 848-9686. We’re hoping for a good turn-out as there are some changes which we hope we’ll be able to convey to the members so they better understand what’s taking place in our club. We will have election of officers & installation of same on Saturday morning. If you would be willing to assume a position, the nominating committee (John Melton, Kathy Stewart & Lee Peel) would love to hear from you either by phone or snail-mail (Melton and Stewarts are not set up for e-mail but Peels are). The unit officers are the communication between the members and International Officers and Governors.
Harry & I will be leaving 9/5 for IN to meet with friends prior to attending the Fall Rendezvous in IL. We urge all who can possibly attend to do so. We would like to have a good showing of our members and then we’ll also get to meet more of you.
The only birthday we know of is associate member, Winton Carter, FL 9/30. To all others Happy Birthday & Happy Anniversary. We’ll list you when we have your information.
Happy Traveling!!

The 95-year old mother of Jim Miller passed away in California. Jim made a quick trip to California for her funeral and then back home to get the RV, Orpha and his granddaughter to go mountain climbing in California. What a HOT August good old Virginia has had!! On many days, high temperature records were broken. Continuous days of 100 plus degrees seemed to go on and on. Thank goodness for air-conditioning and cooler fall weather.
Louise Mauck has recovered nicely from the surgery she had to undergo during the rendezvous at Winston-Salem. She & Marshall plan to go to a high school reunion in Farmville, then go on to the Fall Rendezvous in Duquoin, IL.
The Morris family has traveled about this summer. Ned, Rosemary and children spent a week in NYC and areas in PA. They reported a wonderful trip. Ollin & I, along with a daughter and her family, attended a reunion at our old family homestead at Fancy Gap, VA. Both of our parent's roots are in those beautiful mountains of western VA. We also had a week at Duck, NC with two of our daughters and their families. One of them was Susan & Mike Sexton, 22 year members of the club. What a wonderful way to spend relaxed time with the grandchildren!
Marshall Mauck, Unit President, will be sending out e-mails to everyone with plans for the Fall Rally. We will be electing officers, so if you have a desire to serve, please speak up. I will be retiring as Secretary/Treasurer. Since there will be no October newsletter, this is the last one I will write.
God bless each of and travel safely,
Thelma

Attending the south-end lunch on July 17 were the Hansons, Lamars, Opstads, Reeds, Schmidts and Willeys. Dick Heaton called to say he couldn't make the lunch because Phyllis fell and broke her arm. Also, George McKay fell, was thoroughly checked out and although he is very sore and using a walking stick he is coming along. Norm Anderson had foot surgery, and today, August 8th, he is in regular shoes again! We wish a speedy return to good health to you all.
Today, a group of us attended the graveside service for Iona Raney. Iona was a member since April 1984, and was a very enthusiastic member over the years. Iona & Frank led many outings and gave pleasure to a very large number of people. They were much appreciated. Trish read a nice tribute to Iona at the gravesite.
Besides Iona's family, there were people from her quilting group, Red Hatters group, Genealogy group, Church group, and her former residential area paying their respects. Trish Abernathy hosted a remembrance gathering at the clubhouse where she lives. Reminiscences of outings etc, with Iona & Frank were relived, and some hazy memories were cleared!
Attending the funeral, from our club, were Trish Abernathy, Andersons, Phyllis Avery, Hansons, Lamars, Littles, McKays, Opstads, Raymonds and Willeys. It was a gray and overcast day, not typical of this time of year and luckily there was no rain.
The dates for the Fall Rally in September are: Early arrivals on the 4th, the first day is Wednesday the 5th, and departing on Sunday the 9th. Flyers and schedules were mailed the end of July so all members should have received them by now. If not, please give us a call and we will get them to you, pronto.
At the Fall Rally the Abramsons take the baton, and I know you will be hearing more from Carolyn about the hundred butts in Burnaby (B.C. that is)!
We are signing out and our thanks for your help this past year.
Very appreciative,
Frank and Eileen
